Acumen Fund is a non-profit global venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. Acumen Fund seeks to prove that small amounts of philanthropic capital, combined with large doses of business acumen, can build thriving enterprises that serve vast numbers of the poor. The East Hampton Day Care Learning Center provides full day, year-round childcare for the working families of the East End of Long Island, NY. Its mission is to advocate for children by providing high-quality educational and recreational programs that provide the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children during a critical time in their development. P4H will provide scholarships for those who may not be able to attend due to financial circumstances. You may visit them at www.easthamptondaycare.org.
The P4H East End Catastrophic Fund provides crucial financial support to individuals and families who need immediate medical or economic assistance due to emergencies or catastrophic events, and to bestow scholarships to students in need of financial aid. The Fund has recently given to the area’s food pantries and Meals-On-Wheels, sponsored a surf camp for autistic children in Montauk for LICOP, and several families dealing with serious illness and untimely job loss. Two college scholarships will be given this spring to assist one male and one female student graduating from East Hampton High School. For additional information, contact us at info@p4h.org.
The Montauk Playhouse Community Center is the social and cultural centerpiece of Montauk. The Center provides sorely needed services and facilities for the entire East End community, including both year-round and seasonal residents, a childcare center, a senior nutrition center, an adult day care center, and a high-school regulation-sized gymnasium. When completed, the Center will also house a performing arts center and an aquatics center. You may visit them at www.montaukplayhouse.org.
PRASAD Children's Dental Health Program (PRASAD CDHP) is based in Sullivan County, NY, two hours north of NYC. The organization delivers dental services to underserved children via a mobile dental clinic because of the rural nature of the county and the lack of public transportation. PRASAD CDHP provides services through arrangements with schools and colleges; with local agencies such as Social Services, County Pubic Health, Head Start and Youth Bureau; and with the New York State Department of Health. In 2004, the program expanded into Ulster County, NY and the dental clinic now visits 17 locations in the two counties. Since 1996, the program has served 55,000 children and provided 160,000 dental procedures. You may visit them at www.prasadcdhp.org or call 845-434-0376.
The Retreat’s mission is to provide safety, shelter and support for victims of domestic abuse and to break the cycle of family violence. The Retreat is the only domestic violence agency serving the East End of Long Island. You may visit them at www.theretreatinc.org
